“Blue Skies” Pearl Necklace

Lets make it!
  1. Measure and cut 2 x 76cm (30") lengths of the power cord and thread both lengths through one needle. This includes a little extra for finishing.

  2. Making sure the ends of the cord are equal thread the necklace end onto the cord so that the hook is facing up towards the end. Next thread a crimp bead on. At approx 2.5cm (1") from the end of the cord squeeze the crimp tight with the flat nose pliers so it is unable to move. Take the necklace end up to the end of the cord to cover the crimp. Cut off the excess cord after the crimp. Pull the necklace end against the crimp to double check that it is completely secure. Then just close the two rounded halves around the crimp. You can either use your fingers to do this or pliers.

  3. Thread on 12 x 8mm beads then remove one of the cords and thread on to another needle. Then thread a silver plated bead on to each cord followed by an 8mm bead. Taking a 10mm bead feed the needle from the right side of the bead through the hole to bring you to the left side of the bead.  Then with the other needle feed through the hole in the opposite direction to bring you to the right side of the bead. Take the right needle and thread on a 10mm bead. Then the left needle thread a 10mm bead.  Through a 10mm bead thread the needles in opposite directions. This process of threading in the opposite direction is repeated throughout this stage using different size beads in the sequence as follows. So on separate cords, left needle 10mm bead, right needle 14mm bead then both cords in opposite direction with a 14mm bead. Continue until you have used all 21 of the 14mm beads. To complete this part repeat the beginning section in reverse order finishing the strand with the 2 silver plated beads.  You now need to thread the cords back on to one needle and thread on 12 of the 8mm beads.

  4. Now thread the necklace end onto the cord and follow the process as in step two.

  5. On one end of the necklace end attach a jump ring and the clasp. Open the jump ring by holding the ring flat between your thumb and index finger and take the pliers in your other hand. Use them to pull one side of the ring forward to create a small opening. Attach the jump ring to the loop on the necklace end and the clasp and close in the same manner as you opened it. Repeat process on the other side for the tag. Attach the loop on the necklace end to the jump ring and close the loop.
