Purple Dyed Howlite Necklace

Lets make it!
  1. Measure and cut two lengths of the tigertail 64cm (29"), this includes a little extra for finishing.

  2. First take an eyepin and thread on 1 x 8mm bead, 1 x 10mm and 1 x 8mm bead and make a loop. To do this make sure the loop is the same size hole as the eyepin. If you slide the hole in the eyepin down on one side of the round nose pliers and make a note of how far it goes down the jaw or use a permanent marker to draw a line on one side of the jaws. Now slide each bead onto an eyepin so that it’s tight against the end. Then cut the wire approx 5mm (3/8") from the top of the bead. Make a loop by holding the round nose pliers in the palm of your hand with your palm facing up. At the designated spot on the jaw place the top of the wire with the top of the pin flush with the top of the jaws. Hold the pin in your other hand and roll the pliers towards you to make a loop at the top of the pin. Repeat process 6 more times.

  3. Now thread a bead cap and 1 x 8mm bead onto a headpin and make a loop, but at this stage leave the loop slightly open. Repeat one more time. Do the same three times with a 10mm bead. Do the same again twice with a 10mm bead then add an 8mm bead. Thread an 8mm bead onto the remaining headpin and attach to one of the 10mm beads. Place to one side.

  4. Hold together both ends of the tigertail and thread the necklace end onto the cord so that the hook is facing up towards the end. Next thread a crimp bead on. At approx 2.5cm (1") from the end of the cord squeeze the crimp tight with the flat nose pliers so it is unable to move. Take the necklace end up to the end of the cord to cover the crimp. Cut off the excess cord after the crimp. Pull the necklace end against the crimp to double check that it is completely secure. Then just close the two rounded halves around the crimp. You can either use your fingers to do this or some pliers.

  5. Thread 29 x 6mm beads through both lengths of the tigertail then continue on just one of the strands and thread on 1 silver plated bead, followed by 8 x 6mm bead. Using the three beads on the eyepin for the next stage continue to thread on in the order of eyepin,  1 x 6mm bead, eyepin, 1 x 8mm, eyepin, 1x 6mm, eyepin, 1 x 6mm, eyepin, 1 x 8mm, eyepin, 1 x 6mm, eyepin, 8 x 6mm bead and 1 silver plated bead. At this stage you may wish to use some tape on the end of this strand to avoid the beads from slipping off.

  6. Now start on the bottom row by threading on 1 x silver plated bead, 9 x 8mm bead then the eyepin beads from the top row, 1 jump ring and 1 x 10mm bead. Repeat this sequence 3 more times. Then thread 1 x jump ring, 1 x eyepin, 1 x 10mm bead and repeat twice more until the last eyepin then thread 9 more 6mm beads and 1 silver plated bead.

  7. Complete the string by threading 29 of the remaining 6mm beads onto both strands of the tigertail.

  8. Now thread the necklace end onto the cord and follow the process as in step four.

  9. At one end of the string using the round nose pliers attach the hook around the jump ring on the clasp and do the same on the other side using the 5mm jump ring.

  10. To finish the bottom string attach the beads to the jump rings in the following order 8mm bead, 10mm bead, the 2 size beads on one headpin, the linked 8mm and 10mm beads and then reverse the sequence for the remainder.
